The police officers involved in the incident of piling dead bodies onto a van in Ashulia have been identified, according to Dhaka District Superintendent of Police (SP) Ahmad Muyeed.

SP Muyeed stated that during a media briefing after visiting Ashulia Police Station on Sunday.

He also said that the names of the officers are being withheld to allow further actions. A four-member investigation committee, including Additional SP and DB officials, has been formed to probe the incident, which gained widespread attention after a video went viral on social media.

SP Muyeed emphasized the seriousness with which the police are handling the matter, although no specific deadline has been set for the submission of the investigation report.

When asked if charges will be brought against the involved officers, SP Muyeed affirmed that legal action will be taken against anyone found guilty, stating, "The police are not above the law."

He also mentioned that a case would be filed not only for the deaths of students but also for the policemen who were killed, highlighting the government's commitment to addressing crimes against humanity with the highest priority.

The video, showing two policemen throwing a dead body onto a van already loaded with corpses, sparked outrage online after it was geolocated near Ashulia Police Station by fact-checker Qadaruddin Shishir of AFP's Bangladesh office.
