Youth arrested for extortion pretending to be coordinator

A youth was apprehended and handed over to the police by locals in Ashulia after he was caught extorting money while posing as a coordinator. 

The arrested Aziz, 27, from Madhupur Talteki area in Dhamsona union of Ashulia. He was reportedly a follower of former Awami League MP Talukdar Touhid Jung Murad.

Ashulia Police Station inspector (investigation) Masudur Rahman confirmed the arrest on Monday morning. 

Earlier, on Sunday night, a local businessman Manik filed a case against Aziz for extortion.

According to the case statement, Aziz was demanding money while pretending to be a coordinator of the student movement. Aziz threatened the plaintiff Manik, claiming he would frame him in a murder case if the demanded money was not paid. 

The victim Manik said that Aziz was beaten and subsequently handed over to Ashulia Police upon notifying the coordinators of Jahangirnagar University. He then filed a case against him for extortion.

Inspector Masudur Rahman stated that Aziz was handed over to the police by locals, and a case of extortion was filed against him. He shown arrested in connection with this case.
