A mother and her daughter were killed after being rammed by a speeding bus on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at Cumilla Cantonment area on Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Lipi Akter, 35, wife of Saudi expat Farid Uddin from Budhair village under Kalirbazar union in Sadar upazila, and her daughter Lamisa Akter, 13. Lamisa was a seventh grade student of the Cantonment School.

Citing locals, OC Iqbal said Lipi along with Lamisa was crossing the highway to take her daughter to school while a Suganda Paribahan bus ran them over. Lipi died on the spot and Lamisa was critical injured.

Locals took the seventh grader to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to the injuries after staying in (ICU) Intensive care unit for two hours.

The bodies were handed over to the family members and police have seized the bus, however, none could be made arrested, said the OC, adding that legal proceedings were underway in this regard.
