Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested a youth along with a huge amount of firearms and ammunition from Sonaimuri upazila in Noakhali on Saturday night.
The arrested is Md Shipon, 25, a resident of Amirabad village under Deoti union of the upazila.
Assistant Superintendent of Police and acting company commander of RAB-11, CPC-3, Noakhali Md. Golam Morshed confirmed the arrest in a press release on Monday afternoon.
According to the press release, Shipon and his associates were involved in violent clashes and various criminal activities in the area. They had stockpiled weapons and ammunition with the intent of asserting dominance in their locality. Acting on intelligence, RAB-11 conducted a special operation to apprehend him. During the operation, law enforcement recovered two pistols, two LGs (locally-made guns), one pipe gun, 25 rounds of bullets, 13 shotgun cartridges, two tear gas shells, three cocktails, three magazines and several lethal weapons from his possession.
ASP Md. Golam Morshed further stated that legal proceedings are underway to transfer the arrested to Sonaimuri Police Station for further action.
