Retrenched garment workers on Tuesday blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway for an hour, demanding the reinstatement of their jobs.

The protest, involving workers sacked from several factories in Gazipur, halted traffic as they gathered on Sataish Road in Tongi. The workers, recently laid off, voiced their struggles with unemployment and threatened to continue protesting until their jobs are restored.
Police and Army personnel intervened to disperse the protesters and restore traffic. Meanwhile, production at Pritee Garments Ltd was suspended due to the unrest.

Additionally, workers from Bata Shoe Company Ltd assembled nearby, demanding a minimum basic salary of Tk 15,000 and a 20% annual salary increase. Security in the area has been heightened with additional police deployment.
