Law enforcers have recovered a firearm and 12 rounds of ammunition in an abandoned state from a graveyard in Kabirhat upazila of Noakhali district on Thursday night.
The seized weapon was owned reportedly by former Member of Parliament (MP) Ekramul Karim Chowdhury and has not been submitted to the police station.
Police Superintendent of Noakhali Mohammad Asaduzzaman said on information joint forces conducted a raid in the adjacent area Ekramul Karim Chowdhury's house at Shundolpur village at around 9.15 PM and found a plastic sack from where they seized the shotgun.
Atahar Ishraque Shabab Chowdhury, former Upazila Parishad chairman and Ekramul Karim Chowdhury's son, said his father was the owner of weapon that has not been submitted to Kabirhat Polices in time as his father was sick. However, it was known to the authority concerned, he added.
12 rounds of cartridges were recovered in the drive and a case is being processed to file.
