Gazi tyres factory set aflame again

A group of robbers looted Gazi tyres factory in Narayanganj's Rupganj upazila and subsequently set it on fire for the third time on Friday afternoon.

The robbers reportedly took away various machinery parts and iron pieces from the factory during the attack.

The latest attack was carried out around 4:30 PM on Friday (September 6) when a group of 40 to 50 individuals entered the factory and began looting metal parts of it. Later, a section of the attackers set fire to the wastage section inside the factory which quickly engulfed the adjacent area quickly.

Hafizur Rahman, security guard of the factory, said, "Around 4:30 PM, a group broke through the barbed wire fence on eastern side of the factory and entered the mixing building, taking various metal items. Despite a recent deadly fire in this building, they showed no fear and returned to loot again. However, We managed to catch a few of them."

Earlier, on August 5, following the student movement that resulted in AL-led government's collapse, the factory was looted and set on fire for the first time. Later, on August 25, a similar fire was set at the factory around 10:30 PM. It took 12 firefighting units 21 hours to bring the fire under control. The building's 5th and 6th floors collapsed, and around 187 people were reported missing following that incident. The fire service was unable to continue the rescue operations due to the collapse of the structure.
