Man beaten to death on theft suspicion

An elderly man was beaten to death allegedly by a mob on suspicion of being a thief at Nageshwari upazila in Kurigram district on Saturday midnight.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Jalil, 72, a resident of Bagdanga Pirbari Fakirtari area in the municipality.
Local ward commissioner Ashraful Alam said local apprehended Jalil suspecting him as a thief around 2 AM on Sunday and beat him mercilessly. 

He was critically injured and taken to Nageshwari Upazila Health Complex where the physicians declared him dead.

Nageshwari Police Station officer-in-charge Rup Kumar confirmed the death adding that the body was sent to Kurigram General Hospital morgue for autopsy and legal actions will be taken in this regard.
