At least 20 individuals were injured in a series of clashes during annual Urs procession at Shah Poran Shrine in Sylhet on Monday afternoon.

Tensions escalated when a group associated with "Sylhet Alem Samaj" opposed alleged "anti-social behavior" during the religious event. The shrine's management had promised to prevent any misconduct, but the procession, which began three days ago, saw increased tensions between the groups. On the third day, clashes erupted, with both sides accusing each other of instigating the violence.

As the situation worsened, hundreds of people from the nearby Haripur area in Jaintiapur Upazila joined the conflict, leading to widespread chaos. Tents of Urs attendees were destroyed, and a police team sent to calm the situation faced attacks from the crowd.

It was learnt that at least 20 people were injured during the series of clashes. However, the shrine committee has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

Later, around 4.30 AM on Tuesday, army intervened and restored order successfully.

Shah Poran Police Station officer-in-charge Harun-ur-Rashid Chowdhury confirmed that efforts to identify and apprehend the perpetrators are underway, though no arrests have been made so far.
