Woman, grandson killed in Cumilla road mishap

An elderly woman and her grandson were killed after being run over by a bus in Cumilla's Burichang upazila on Saturday.

The accident took place around 12.45 PM on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at Kalakachua area in the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Rajia Begum, 50, from South Rachia village in Cumilla Adarsha Sadar upazila, and her grandson Ismail Hossain, 8, from the same village.

Citing the victims family members, police sources said that a bus of 'Asia Aircon' transport rammed the duo when they were returning home from a relative's house and attempted to cross the highway. They both died on the spot.

Moynamoti Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Iqbal Bahar Mojumder confirmed the incident, adding that after being informed, they have recovered the bodies from the spot and kept in police custody.

Police have identified the bus and efforts are underway to arrest the involved bus driver and helper, added the OC.
