Man beaten to death over theft suspicion

A man was beaten to death over suspicion of being thief at Nalchiti upazila in Jhalakathi district in the small hours of Monday.

The incident took place Kumarkhali Paschim Char area under Dapdapia union of the upazila.

The deceased was Razzak Khan, 30, son of Shahjahan Khan from Dhapor village under the upazila.

Police sources said a group of thieves was trying to steal cows from the village when locals apprehended Razzak and beat him mercilessly. He died on the spot.

However, the victim's wife Pakhi Begum claimed Razzak as a day labourer and denied his involved in the theft. She also alleged that Razzak was killed in a planned manner.

Nalchiti Police Station inspector Monoronjon Mistri said the body was recovered and sent to Jhalakathi General Hospital morgue for autopsy. 

Procedures were under process to file a case in this regard, added the police official.
