A man has been arrested on Sunday in connection with the murder of his wife at Kolshi Dighirpar area of Chattogram's Bandar Police Station.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) apprehended Md. Payer Ahmad alias Ripon, 39, from a house in the Bagaiya Haor area of Goainghat upazila in Sylhet.
According to RAB, the murder occurred due to a domestic dispute. The couple, who lived with their two children in Chattogram, had ongoing marital issues. The incident came to light on August 16 when the caretaker of the building informed the brother of the victim Halima,28, that no sound had been heard from Halima’s room for two days.
Upon notifying the police, officers arrived and broke down the door, discovering Halima's partially decomposed body.
Following the discovery, the brother Md. Imran filed a case with Bandar Police Station, and Payer Ahmad fled.
Based on a tip-off, a joint operation by RAB-7 (Chattogram) and RAB-9 (Sylhet) led to his arrest.
RAB-7 Assistant Director (Media), Md. Sharif-ul-Alam, stated that Payer Ahmad, a mason by trade, was often unemployed and frequently borrowed money. He regularly assaulted his wife over financial disputes, which eventually led to her murder.
After the arrest, Payer Ahmad was handed over to the police station concerned for further legal action.
