The body of a young woman with mehendi-stained hands tied behind her back was recovered from Teesta River in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat district on Sunday afternoon.
However, the identities of the deceased, aged around 20-30, could not be known immediately.
Local farmers discovered the body near the southern Balapara area of Mahishkhocha and alerted the police. According to police and local sources, the body was spotted by the farmers working near the Choraha Madrasa area, where it had become lodged on the riverbank.
On information, police retrieved the body and sent it to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Aditmari Police Station officer-in-charge Mahmud-un-Nabi stated that the woman had her hands tied behind her back. She was wearing a black dress and pajama, with a silver necklace around her neck. Her hands were decorated with mehendi, bearing the words "I Love You" in English. Authorities are working to identify the victim.
A general diary (GD) has been filed regarding the incident and the cause of death will be determined after the autopsy report is received, added the police official.
