A woman died when she tried to save her teen daughter from being drowned in the Someshwari River at Durgapur upazila in Netrakona district on Sunday.
The deceased was Rajia Khatun, 60, wife of Jalil, from Kanial village under Birishiri union of the upazila.
According to locals, Rajia and her daughter Mim Akter, 11, went the river to bathe a cow while Mim slipped into the deepwater and started drowning. Seeing this, Rajia jumped into the river in intention to save her daughter but drowned there.
However, locals rescued the both and took to Durgapur Upazila Health Complex where the physicians declared Rajia dead.
The Residential Medical Officer of the upazila health complex Dr Tanjirul Islam Rayhan confirmed the death.
Durgapur Police Station officer-in-charge Rashedul Islam said they were not informed about the incident. However, legal actions will be taken if they receive any complaint in this regard.
