Jamaat leader killed being hit by covered van in Ctg

A local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed after being hit by a covered van on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway at Sitakunda upazila in Chattogram district on Monday morning.

The accident took place around 9.30 AM on Monday at Pantichila area of the upazila.

The victim was Anwar Hossain, 42, eldest son of late freedom fighter Ishaq Miah of Muhuri village in Baroiardhala union of the upazila. He was the secretary of Baroiardhala union Jamaat-e-Islami unit.

According to locasls, the accident occurred when a speeding covered van crashed into the victim's motorbike from behind in Poursad area of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway, leaving him dead on the spot.

Confirming the matter, Kumira Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Abdul Hakeem Azad said the covered van managed to escape the spot immediately after the accident. 

Efforts are on to identify the covered van and legal actions will be taken upon receiving any complaint, added the OC.
