Young woman 'strangled to death', husband absconding

A young woman found dead at a rented house in Mongla upazila of Khulna district on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Anika, 23, wife of Tufan Sheikh and a resident of Darogar Pukurpar Pabla area under Daulatpur Police Station in Khulna. Since the recovery of the body, the husband Tufan Sheikh went into hiding.

Locals said the couple has been living in the rented house for last eight months. On Monday morning, Tufan called Anika's uncle and informed that Anika committed suicide. Being informed, the uncle rushed there, broke into the room and found Anika was fallen on the bed.

According to the family members, Anika and Tufan got married five years ago and since their marriage, they used to fight often over family disputes and Tufan used to threaten to kill Anika strangling.

"Tufan strangled my daughter to death. I want exemplary punishment in this regard," said the victim's mother.

Mongla Police Station officer-in-charge KM Azizul Islam confirmed the recovery of the body and suspected that it might be a murder.

The actual reason behind the death will be known after autopsy and efforts are on to arrest the fugitive husband, added the OC.
