A fire that broke out in Ambagan area of Mouchak union at Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur, has been brought under control around 8.30 PM on Monday.
The fire, which started around 7:30 PM on Monday, was contained by four units of the Fire Service after an hour and a half of effort.
Abdullah Al Arefin, Deputy Assistant Director of Gazipur Fire Service, confirmed the developement.
Locals said that the fire caused at least 40 rooms in two colonies to ashes.
They also reported that the fire originated from the colonies of Sultan and Mokhles in the area and quickly spread to nearby colonies. Despite attempts by locals to douse the flames, they were unsuccessful and alerted the Fire Service.
Two units from Konabari Modern Fire Station and two from Kaliakoir Fire Station worked together to bring the fire under control. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties.
Al Arefin added that the cause of the fire and the extent of the damages are under investigation, but preliminary findings suggest that the fire may have started from a gas cylinder explosion. Further details will be provided following a thorough investigation.
