A debt-ridden elderly man reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself at Goalanda upazila in Rajbari district on Friday.

The body of Yunus Kha, 65, son of late Yusuf Ali Sheikh and a residen of Ujanchar area, was recovered while hanging from a branch of a tree in the village.
According to family and local sources, he was failing to repay the loans taken from various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and banks. Apart from being physically ill, the NGO workers pressured him for loan installments. He was depressed due to these reasons.

Locals claimed that he may have committed suicide because of this.

Golanda Ghat Police Station officer-in-charge Mohammad Rakibul Islam said that the body was recovered and it was handed over to the family after completing legal procedures.
