Man arrested over raping housewife in Rajshahi

RAB (Rapid Action Battalion) on Friday arrested a man reportedly for raping a housewife after threatening to kill her child in Rajshahi.

The accused Arifuzzaman Arif, 34, was apprehended on Friday night from Mahishalbari Bazar in Godagari upazila of the district. Arif is a resident of CNB Achua Taltala area in the same upazila.

RAB confirmed the matter in a press release on Saturday morning. 

According to the press release, on the evening of August 31, Arif went to the rented residence of the victim at Basua Ali Mor in Rajpara Police Station area of Rajshahi city. Finding her alone, he attempted to rape her, and when she resisted, he threatened to kill her two-and-a-half-year-old child and subsequently raped her.

Arif threatened to kill her if she informed anyone about the incident and then left. When the victim's husband returned home at night, she disclosed the matter to him. 

The housewife was then admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). The victim later filed a rape case herself at Rajpara Police Station.

RAB reported that in addition to the police and other law enforcement agencies, they began a parallel investigation into the incident. 

Based on intelligence, a team from RAB-5 in Rajshahi conducted an operation and arrested Arif, added the press release.
