Gang-rape of college girl: Lover among 6 arrested

Police have arrested six individuals in connection with gang rape of a college student at Hatibandha upazila in Lalmonirhat district. 

The incident took place on Thursday (October 3) at Eco Tourism Park Salban area of Naodabas union in the upazila.
Hatibandha Police Station officer-in-charge Mahmudunnabi confirmed the information on Saturday afternoon.

The arrested are-- Abdur Sattar, from South Gotamari area, Rokon, from Doikhawa Bazar, Rakibul, from Ward No. 5, Al Amin, from the same area, Ratan Mia Sabu and Sultan Hossain, from Naodabas area.

According to police, Abdur Sattar, a cosmetic shop owner, developed a romantic relationship with the college student from North Gotamari area. He lured the student into a sexual relationship with the promise of marriage and recorded the incident with the help of a friend. Using this video to blackmail her, Abdur Sattar and his friend raped her again. Eventualy, threatening to release the video on social media, they took the college student to the Eco Tourism Park Salban in Naodabas union last Thursday, where Abdur Sattar and his friends gang-raped her again and filmed the incident. 

When the victim fell ill, the accused fled, and locals rescued her and sent her home.

Later, the victim's father filed a rape case with Hatibandha Police Station on Friday. 

Following the complaint, police conducted a raid on Saturday morning and arrested the six accused from different locations. Police also sent the victim to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for a medical examination, added the OC Mahmudunnabi.
