An ill fated elderly man was beaten to death reportedly by his son at Sonaimuri upazila in Noakhali district on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Abdus Sobhan, 65, son of late Fajal Rahman and a resident of Naotola village under ward No. 7 of Sonaimuri minicipality.
Since the incident happened, the victim's son Shahidullah, 38, went into hiding.
It was reported that an altercation ensued between the victim and his son over a disputed land. At one stage, the son assaulted the elderly father and beat him with a stick, leaving him critically injured.
He was rescued and taken to a nearby private medical where the physicians declared him dead.
Sonaimuri Police Station officer-in-charge Morshed Alam confirmed the incident and said that police were sent to the spot upon receiving the news.
The body was recovered and sent to Noakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Efforts are on to arrest the accused and legal actions will be taken further, added the OC.
