Police have recovered the throat-slit body of a woman from Nityanandapur village of Noakhali's Sadar upazila on Sunday.
The deceased Murshida Begum, 52, wife of Md. Bachchu Mia, 65, from the same area under Kadir Hanif union ward No. 8. However, police have arrested Bacchu in connection with the incident.
Sudharam Police Station officer-in-charge Mir Zahedul Haque Roni said that preliminary investigations suggest that Bachchu Mia may have killed his wife due to a family dispute.
Upon receiving information, police recovered the body from the scene around 7 AM and brought it to police station. The accused husband was also detained.
According to locals, Bachchu Mia and his wife Murshida Begum lived together while their four sons were living elsewhere. A neighbor, Amena Begum, discovered Murshida's body in the morning and immediately called the national emergency service number 999. The police arrived shortly afterward and recovered the body.
Relatives of the deceased alleged that Bachchu Mia killed his wife sometime during Saturday night.
Following his arrest, Bachchu's inconsistent statements during questioning suggested that he had attempted to cover up the crime throughout the night, added police sources.
