Two college students, including a coordinator of the recent student movement, were killed in a motorcycle-van collision at Mahadebpur upazila in Naogaon on Sunday evening.
The accident occurred around 7 PM on Sunday at Dhanjoil intersection, Mahadebpur Police Station officer-in-charge Hasmat Ali confirmed.
The deceased were identified as Sarafat Hossain, 22, son of Mahmudul Hasan of Joypur Sardarpara village and a student of Islamic History at Dhaka College, and Monirul Islam, 23, son of Mobarak Hossain of Gophanagar village and a student of Shibpur Barendra Degree College.
Citing locals, OC Hasmat Ali said that Sarafat was also the coordinator of the recent anti-discrimination student movement in Mahadebpur upazila.
According to eyewitnesses, Sarafat and Monirul were on their way home to Mahadebpur from Naogaon district town when their motorcycle collided head-on with a battery-operated van coming from the opposite direction. Both of them were thrown off the motorcycle, resulting in their deaths on the spot.
The bodies of the two students have been recovered, and legal action is in progress, added OC Hasmat Ali.
