Woman strangled to death by daughter-in-law

A woman has allegedly been strangled to death by her daughter-in-law at Singair upazila in Manikganj district. 

Following the incident, locals detained the victim's daughter-in-law Runa Begum, 25, and her mother and handed them over to police.

The body of the victim, identified as Hayatun Nesa, was recovered by police at around 7:30 PM on Sunday, from a chest inside her bedroom at Noyadanghi area of Singair Municipality. Hayatun Nesa was wife of Mahamud Kazi, residing in the Noyadanghi area of the upazila. 

According to locals and police sources, the victim lived with her daughter-in-law Runa as her son, Abdul Khalek, works abroad. Runa often went outside without informing her mother-in-law, leading to frequent disputes. On Saturday evening, a quarrel broke out between the two over this issue. 

During the argument, Runa allegedly strangled Hayatun to death and hid her body inside a chest. The next morning, Runa left for her grandmother's house. Concerned relatives started searching for Hayatun when they noticed no activity in the house.

Later that evening, Runa returned with her mother to her in-laws' house. When questioned by relatives, Runa admitted to killing her mother-in-law and hiding the body in the chest. 

Locals then informed the police, who arrived at the scene and recovered the body.

Singair Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md. Zahidul Islam said, "As soon as we received the information, we recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Manikganj Sadar Hospital morgue. Runa and her mother have been detained for their involvement in the incident. Initial findings suggest that Hayatun was strangled to death. Preparations are underway to file a case."
