A teenager was allegedly murdered by being thrown into a pond with his mouth taped and hands and feet tied under the pretense of making a TikTok video at Kabirhat upazila in Noakhali.
However, police have arrested two teenagers in connection with the incident.
The victim, Yasin Arafat, 15, was son of Mohammad Shahabuddin of Uttampur Lamchi village under ward No. 3 of Ghoshbag union in the upazila.
Police recovered Arafat's body from a pond in ward No. 8 of Kabirhat municipality around 12 PM on Monday. He had been missing since September 26, when he was lured by the accused on the pretext of making a TikTok video.
According to police and local sources, Arafat's cousin, Amir Hossain, had previously warned him against associating with certain individuals, which led to a quarrel where Arafat assaulted Amir. Seeking revenge, Amir plotted with his friend Akil to murder Arafat. On Thursday morning, under the guise of creating a TikTok video, Amir and Akil lured Arafat to the Pond, where they tied him with duct tape over his mouth, tied his hands and feet, and threw him into the water, leaving him to drown.
Noakhali Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Mortahin Billah, and Kabirhat Police Station officer-in-charge Md. Shahin Mia, said that three days after Arafat's disappearance, his mother, Shahanara Akter, filed a General Diary (GD) with the police station.
Acting on the GD, police detained the two accused teenagers 11 days later. During interrogation, the suspects confessed, and based on their statements, the body was recovered, and the mystery behind the murder was unraveled, added the police officials.
