Lightning kills 4 in Kushtia

Four individuals were killed and nine others injured after being struck by thunderbolts at Daulatpur upazila in Kushtia district on Wednesday.

The incident took place around 2.30 PM at Hosenabad Gorerpara area in the upazila.

Daulatpur Police Station officer-in-charge Mahubur Rahman confirmed the information.

The deceased were identfiied as--Awlad Hossain, 62, son of late Haus Jaddar, Nijam Uddin, 55, son of Moyen Uddin, Tarikul, 25, son of Mujam Uddin-- all were residents of Gorerpara area, and Zahura, 40, wife of Jaman Mia from Farakpur Botala area.

According to locals and police sources, the first trio were struck by a streak of a thunderbolt while they were working on a field amid heavy rainfall, leaving them dead on the spot and nine other co-workers critically injured.

Meanwhile, Zahura died on the way to a nearby hospital after being hit by lightning strike while bathing in a pond near to her house.

Upon receiving information, additional police were sent to the spot and the legal actions will be taken in theses regards, added the OC Mahubur Rahman.
