Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized Indian sarees worth over Tk 3
crore from a covered van belonging to a Courier Service Company in
Lalmonirhat.
The raid took place in the small hours of Monday at
Teesta Toll Plaza, where BGB officials intercepted the van and
discovered the smuggled items.
According to BGB officials, after
being tipped-off, a patrol team from Lalmonirhat BGB-15 Battalion
stopped the van around midnight on the Kurigram-Dhaka highway. The van
had set off from Nageshwari earlier that day. Upon being signaled to
stop, the vehicle initially sped towards Teesta Toll Plaza, prompting a
chase by the BGB.
Eventually, the van was apprehended at the toll plaza.
Upon
searching the van, the BGB team recovered 1,466 pieces of Indian
sarees, 1,479 Panjabi sets, and 1,000 pant pieces. The total value of
the seized goods is estimated to be Tk 3.127 crore.
Colonel
Mofazzal Hossain Akanda, commanding officer of BGB-15 Lalmonirhat
Battalion, confirmed the seizure, stating that such operations will
continue in the future.
The seized van is currently in the custody of the 15 BGB Battalion headquarters, he added.
