2 held over killing JCD activist in Rajbari

Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the sensational murder case at Goalanda upazila in Rajbari district. 

The arrested are Fazal Sheikh, 40, a resident of Sohrab Mondolpara area in Daulatdia Union, and Yusuf Mondol, 30, of Hossain Mondolpara area in the same union. Of them, Fazal is the fourth named suspect in the murder case of Faruk Sardar, 25, while Yusuf is being held on suspicion of involvement in the crime.

The detention was confirmed in a press release by officer-in-charge Md. Rakibul Islam of Goalanda Ghat Police Station on Monday night.

According to the case statement, Faruk Sardar was brutally murdered on Saturday night (October 12) around 10 PM in Porabhita area of Daulatdia union, reportedly due to a dispute over local dominance. The conflict arose reportedly from control over illegal toll collection, gambling operations, and money related to unauthorized soil excavation, all of which were centered around the Daulatdia red-light area.

OC Md. Rakibul Islam stated that police took swift action to bring the situation under control following the murder. With the assistance of the district detective police, Fazal Sheikh was arrested in Manikganj district, while Yusuf Mondol was apprehended in Goalanda Ghat area. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects.
