Child drowns in Chandpur pond

A child drowned in a pond at Uyaruk village under Tamta South union at Shahrasti upazila in Chandpur district on Wednesday.

Deceased Supriya Afran Soha, 9, was the daughter of Md. Shafiul Alam from the same village.

According to locals, Supriya had been playing with other children when she decided to go for a swim in the nearby pond. During this time, she drowned. Realizing what had happened, family members rushed to rescue her from the pond and took her to Hajiganj Upazila Health Complex.

However, the on-duty doctor at the hospital's emergency department declared Supriya dead after examination.

Confirming the death, Dr. Md. Golam Mawla Naeem, the Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, stated that the child was brought to the hospital dead.
