A dispute over the selling a donated goat at a mosque in Khulna's Paikgachha upazila resulted in a violent clash, leaving one dead and three others injured on Friday.
The incident took place on Friday after Jumu'ah prayers at Shyamnagar Pashchim Para Jame Mosque.
The deceased was Fazar Ali Gazi, 55, son of late Moslem Gazi of Shyamnagar village in the upazila.
According to police and locals, the clash erupted when members of the mosque committee decided to sell a goat that had been donated by a local person. Tensions rose when the committee announced that the sale would only proceed with cash payments and no credit. This sparked a heated argument between two groups of congregants, which quickly escalated into a physical altercation.
Several individuals were injured during the fight, and they were rushed to Paikgacha Upazila Health Complex where Fazar Ali was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
Tushar Kanti Das, acting officer-in-charge of Paikgacha Police Station, stated, "Fazar Ali sustained serious injuries during the fight and is believed to have died on the way to the hospital. We are taking necessary steps, including preparing for an autopsy.
Police are investigating the incident and the OC assured that legal action would be taken against those responsible for the violence.
