A long-standing feud over establishing supremacy culminated in the abduction and brutal killing of a man in Shariatpur's Naria upazila on Friday.
The incident occurred on Friday morning in Kazi Kandi village of Rajnagar union in the upazila
The deceased was identified as Kamal Bepari, 45, son of late Hosen Bepari, a resident of Kazi Kandi village under the upazila.
According to Kamal's brother, Sultan Bepari, the family had been embroiled in a prolonged dispute with a group led by Ali Hossain Sardar. The conflict escalated when a verbal altercation broke out between Kamal's wife and another individual named Aynal Sardar over crossing a small bridge in the village. Following the argument, Kamal was reportedly abducted from the street by Ali Hossain Sardar and his associates. They took him to a house, where he was brutally beaten and hacked.
Kamal was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) but succumbed to his injuries in the afternoon.
Sultan Bepari has called for a thorough investigation and justice for his brother's murder, stating that the violence was a result of the ongoing feud between the two groups.
Assistant Superintendent of Police in Shariatpur (Naria Circle) Ahsan Habib confirmed that there had been a history of disputes between factions in the area. He said, "Kamal Bepari was abducted, beaten, and injured following a confrontation between two women from opposing sides. He later died at the hospital. No formal complaint has been lodged yet, but legal action will be taken once a complaint is filed and an investigation conducted."
