Man commits suicide in Rajbari

A man reportedly took his own life by hanging himself from a branch of a tree at Goalanda upazila in Rajbari district on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Md Jalal Sheikh, 57, son of late Kaimuddin Sheikh, a resident of Gafur Sheikhpara area under Ujanchar union of the upazila.

Goalanda Ghat Police Station officer-in-charge Md Rakibul Islam confirmed the death.

According to locals and family members, Jalal was mentally unstable and had been suffering from several maladies for a long time. He used to run from the house and returned home by himself. Around 8-10 days earlier, he ran out from the house and returned home Friday evening. Later, on Saturday morning, locals spotted his body hanging from a branch of a tree.

Hearing the screams of victim's relatives, locals rushed there and recovered the body from the spot.

Goalanda Ghat Police Station officer-in-charge Md Rakibul Islam confirmed the death adding that they have sent the body to Rajbari General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

An unnatural death case was filed in this regard, added the OC.
