The Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has stated that the law and order situation in the country is improving though there is still room for further progress.
He made these remarks on Sunday while addressing the officers of 19th Ansar Battalion during a meeting at Nawhata in Rajshahi's Paba upazila, where he was the chief guest.
The advisor emphasized the significant role played by the Ansar force in maintaining this improvement. He highlighted that after the August 5 anti-discrimination student movement, the police and other law enforcement agencies faced challenging situations. During this time, the Ansar force effectively fulfilled its assigned duties, particularly in protecting embassies, airports, and various financial institutions. Their dedicated service during these difficult times deserves commendation and appreciation, he added.
Prior to the meeting, the Advisor visited Nawhata and Kharkhori Bazar of the upazila, where he inquired about the prices of essential goods. He advised the local traders to remain vigilant against syndicates and extortion.
Later, he inspected the regional fertilizer storage of the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) at Mango Square in the city.
Additionally, the advisor visited various ongoing development projects of the Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) in Godagari upazila. He also inspected the Sarmangla Canal and reviewed the irrigation activities through the double lifting method using surface water.
During these visits, the Home Affairs Advisor was accompanied by BMDA Chairman Dr. M. Asaduzzaman and BMDA Executive Director Shafiqul Islam, among other officials.
