Workers from a garment factory on Monday staged a protest by blocking the Nabinnagar-Chandra Highway demanding payment of their three months overdue salaries.
The protest began at 10 AM on Monday, with workers from Generation Next Limited gathering at Bipail intersection after marching from the factory's premises in Gorat area of Ashulia.
The agitated workers expressed frustration over not receiving any wages or bonuses for the past three months. They claimed that the factory management had announced an indefinite shutdown without paying them. Despite multiple discussions with the owners, who provided assurances, the workers have yet to see any payments. Many workers have not received their salaries or bonuses, while some staff members are owed four to five months of wages.
One protestor said, "The factory was closed last month without paying us even one month's salary. We received promises from the BGMEA and the Ministry of Labour, but our salaries remain unpaid. That's why we've taken to the highway; we will continue the blockade until we receive our dues."
Saroar Alam, Superintendent of Industrial Police-1, said, "I have come to the scene to address the blockade and discussions are ongoing."
