Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the murder of a youth in Chandgaon area of Chattogram city.
The arrests were made on Friday during raids in Hadumazipara area of Panchlaish and in Hathazari area of Raozan.
The arrested are Md. Helal and Elias Hossain Apu, however, the alleged mastermind behind the attack, notorious gang leader Sajjad Hossain alias Choto Sajjad, remains at large.
According to Kazi Md. Tarek Aziz, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Public Relations) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, during police interrogation, the both Helal and Elias confessed to their involvement in the killing of Aftab Uddin Tahsin, 26. Later, they have been sent to jail following their court appearance on Saturday.
The murder occurred on October 21 in broad daylight, when a group of armed youths arrived in a microbus and shot Tahsin in Chandgaon's Adurpara area. The incident is reportedly linked to a long-standing feud over territorial control between two rival groups led by Sarwar Hossain alias Babla, and Choto Sajjad. Tahsin was known to be affiliated with Babla's group.
Tahsin's family claims he was involved in the construction materials business and was targeted by Choto Sajjad over extortion demands.
Following the murder, Tahsin's father, Md. Musa, filed a case with Chandgaon Police Station naming Sajjad and four others as suspects.
