2 motorcyclists killed in Gazipur road accident

Two young motorcyclists were killed after being hit by a cover van at Kaliganj upazila in Gazipur on Thursday.

The accident occurred on Thursday (October 31) afternoon in front of KN Enterprise Petrol Pump on the Gazipur-Itakhola regional road.

The deceased were identified as Mostafizur Rahman, 20, son of Siraj Uddin Akand from Norun village in the upazila, and Nahidul Akanda, 20, son of expatriate Rafiqul Islam, from the same village. The motorcycle's driver, Niloy Khandaker, 21, sustained serious injuries in the incident.

Kaliganj Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md. Alauddin confirmed the accident on Friday afternoon.

According to locals, the three friends were heading to Jamalpur to watch a football match on Thursday afternoon. As they approached the KN Enterprise Petrol Pump on the Gazipur-Itakhola road, their motorcycle skidded, causing them to fall onto the road. At that moment, a covered van, heading towards Gazipur, ran over them. Mostafizur died at the scene, while Nahidul and Niloy were critically injured.

They were taken to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, where doctors advised transferring Nahidul to Dhaka Medical College Hospital due to his critical condition. Tragically, Nahidul passed away on the way to Dhaka.

OC Alauddin stated that, as the families had no objections, the bodies were handed over to the relatives without an autopsy following a formal application.
