Husband held over killing wife on infidelity suspicion

The incident took place around 4 AM on Sunday at Aftab Uddin's house in Mizmizi Al-Amin Nagar.

However, police have detained the accused husband, Motaleb Mia, 38, from the scene.

The victim, identified as Kanchan Nahar, 34, was originally from Ramjiban village in Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha. Meanwhile, her husband Motaleb Mia, is son of Mayes Uddin and works as a deputy manager at Unesco BD Limited, a garment factory in the Adamjee EPZ. Kanchan was also employed in the sample department at Lintas BD, another garment factory.

According to Siddhirganj Police Station sub-inspector Nibir, the incident began on Saturday night when Motaleb saw his wife talking on the phone around 10 PM. When he questioned her about the call, she reportedly hung up and deleted her call history which raised his suspicions. This led to an argument that escalated into a physical altercation later in the night.

At one point, Motaleb claimed that his wife struck him in the groin which allegedly provoked him to strangle her with a scarf in a fit of anger.

SI Nibir added that after the incident, Motaleb attempted to arrange for an ambulance to take his wife to the hospital.

However, the landlord grew suspicious and called emergency services via the 999 hotline, alerting the police. Upon arriving at the scene, police recovered Kanchan's body and sent it to the Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Siddhirganj Police Station officer-in-charge Al-Mamun confirmed the incident, stating that Motaleb has been taken into custody and preparations for filing a murder case are underway.
