Polythene factory fined Tk 1.6 lakh in Lalmonirhat

A mobile court in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat district conducted a raid on an illegal polythene manufacturing factory and imposed a fine of Tk 1,60,000, seizing one metric ton of polythene products. 

The operation was led by Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Rowjatun Jannat on Monday in Durarkuti Colony area of Saptibari Union.

The government has completely banned the production, distribution, and use of polythene due to its severe environmental impact. Despite this, a factory had allegedly been running a polythene factory in Durarkuti Colony for an extended period, supplying the banned product nationwide. 

Acting on a tip-off, Assistant Commissioner Rowjatun Jannat, along with police and officials from the Department of Environment, conducted the raid and seized nearly one metric ton of the illegal material.

The factory owner, Azad Hossain, was fined Tk 1,60,000 for his offense and the court ordered an immediate halt to the factory's operations. 

Executive Magistrate Rowjatun Jannat told, "The factory owner has been fined, and production has been ordered to stop. The seized materials will be handled according to the instructions of higher authorities."
