The murder case involving the killing of a woman and storing her body in a deep freezer has taken a new turn at Dupchanchia upazila in Bogura as the law enforcement now points to the tenants of the victim's house as the culprits, clearing the victim's son, initially suspected of the crime.

The incident revolves around the murder of 50-year-old Umme Salma, whose body was discovered in her residence on November 10.

Two days later, the victim's son, Sad Bin Azizur Rahman, 19, was detained by RAB-12 (Rapid Action Battalion), claiming his involvement in the crime.

However, Bogura district police have since identified the actual perpetrators as tenant Mabia Akhter and her two associates, Suman Chandra and Moslem, who have been arrested.

The information was confirmed by Additional Police Superintendent of Bogura District, Suman Ranjan Sarkar, on Friday evening, November 15.

Earlier, on November 10, Salma was found dead in her home in Joypurpara village, her body hidden in a deep freezer. RAB detained her son on November 12, alleging that he confessed to killing his mother. However, further investigation by the local police unveiled new details that shifted the focus to Mabia Akhter, who had been renting a portion of Salma's house.

According to police, Mabia and her associates carried out the murder after a dispute over unpaid rent and repeated requests by Salma to vacate the premises.

Key evidence emerged from missing household items, including a Wi-Fi router and a mobile phone. Police traced these items to Mabia, who later confessed during interrogation. She admitted that she, along with her accomplices, planned the murder due to ongoing conflicts with the victim.

Mabia revealed that she had been using the rented house for illicit activities, which had been opposed by Salma and her husband. The tensions escalated over unpaid rent, prompting Mabia to orchestrate the crime.

On the night of the incident, Mabia entered the house and summoned her associates, who rendered Salma unconscious with a sedative spray. The group then killed her, bound her body, and placed it in the deep freezer before fleeing.

Bogura District Police Spokesperson, Additional Superintendent of Police Suman Ranjan Sarkar, confirmed that all three suspects confessed to the crime and provided detailed accounts. Items used in the murder and other stolen goods were recovered following their statements.

The suspects have been remanded into custody and will provide statements in court. Police assured further investigation is underway to uncover additional details.
