An autorickshaw driver was murdered and his vehicle stolen by assailants at Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj district.
The police recovered his body on Saturday morning around 10:30 AM from beneath the overpass on the Dhaka-Mawa Highway.
The deceased was identified as Alauddin Bepari, 35, a resident of Ghonoshyampur village in Shekher Nagar union and son of late Jumman Bepari.
The victim's elder brother, Halim Bepari, said that Alauddin left home with his autorickshaw on Friday afternoon, as usual. When he didn't return home that night, the family attempted to call him repeatedly, but he did not answer. Halim believes that the assailants killed his brother during the night and stole his autorickshaw.
On Saturday morning around 9:30 AM, someone from Nimtala informed them about a body lying by the highway. Upon arrival, Halim discovered that his brother had been murdered and the autorickshaw was missing.
Sirajdikhan Police Station officer-in-charge Khondaker Hafizur Rahman told that the body has been examined and will be sent to Munshiganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Legal proceedings are underway to address the incident.
