Indian goods worth over Tk 1.5cr seized at Sylhet border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in an anti-smuggling operation, seized smuggled Indian goods worth approximately Tk 1.65 crore from the border areas of Sylhet and Sunamganj districts.

In a press release issued on Saturday, the Commanding Officer of Sylhet Battalion-48 Lieutenant Colonel Md. Hafizur Rahman, confirmed the information. 

According to the press release, acting on intelligence reports, BGB teams conducted raids across various border points, including Sripur, Tamabil, Songram, Sonarhat, Protapur, Panthumai, Utma, Minatila, Kalairag, Kalasadeq, and Banglabazar. During the operation, a range of smuggled goods was confiscated. These included Indian Nivea Soft Cream, Garnier Men Facewash, Nivea Body Lotion, My Fair Cream, Declo-M tablets, winter blankets, sugar, chocolate, soap, cattle, Phensedyl syrup, Bangladeshi garlic, catfish, and boats used for illegal stone extraction. 

The estimated value of the seized items stands at Tk 1.65 crore.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Hafizur Rahman further stated, "As per instructions from higher authorities, BGB has intensified its intelligence and operational activities to ensure border security and curb smuggling. The confiscated items have been secured and necessary legal actions will be taken in compliance with regulations."

BGB emphasized its commitment to maintaining border security and continuing anti-smuggling operations in the region.
