2 get life imprisonment in Manikganj drug case

A Manikganj court on Sunday sentenced two individuals to life imprisonment in a drug trafficking case.

Liaquat Ali Molla, the Judge of Manikganj District and Sessions Judge Court, delivered the verdict in absentia of the convicts.

The convicted individuals are, Nazrul Islam, from Haragaz under Saturia upazila in Manikganj,  Robijul Islam, from Singdair under Nagarpur upazila of Tangail.  

According to case records, the accused were apprehended with 50 grams of heroin in front of a residence near Nagar Bhaban in Manikganj Municipality. Law enforcement officials arrested them on the spot and later filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act.  

The investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Saifur Rahman, submitted a charge sheet to the court on May 27, 2021, confirming the allegations. Subsequently, the court framed charges against the accused on December 13, 2021.  

The court found the charges under Section 36(1), Table 8(c) of the 2018 Narcotics Control Act to be unequivocally proven. Both were sentenced to Life imprisonment.  

A fine of Tk 10,000 each, with an additional six months of imprisonment if the fine is not paid.  

The convicted individuals are currently absconding and warrants have been issued for their arrest.
