Youth held in Patuakhali over rape under marriage pretense

Police have arrested a young man from Mahipur area near Kuakata in Patuakhali, on charges of raping his lover under the pretext of marriage. 

The accused, Sohag, 24, is a resident of Musulliyabad village uner Latachapli union of Kalapara upazila.  

According to the complaint, Sohag had been in a long-term relationship with a girl from the same area. Sohag allegedly exploited the relationship, promising marriage while sexually assaulting her against her will on multiple occasions.  

On Saturday (November 23), Sohag reportedly visited Sumaiya's house with the intention of raping her again. However, local residents caught him and detained him on the spot.  

Following the incident, the victim filed a case under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at Mahipur Police Station. 

Based on the complaint, police arrested Sohag from Azimpur area of Latachapli.  

Mahipur Police Station officer-in-charge Tarikul Islam stated, "The victim has lodged a formal complaint against Sohag. He has been charged under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. The victim has been sent to the hospital for medical examination and the accused has been remanded to jail through the court."
