The central executive committee president of Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP) volunteer wing SM Zilani on Sunday said that vengeance cannot establish order in any society or country.

He made the remarks as BNP leaders and activists distributed leaflets on his behalf in Kotalipara upazila.

The distribution began in the afternoon, starting from the Upazila Health Complex, passing through Pashchimpara Bazaar, and ending at Ghaghor Bazaar. BNP leaders visited various shops during the campaign, spreading Zilani's message to the people.

Speaking to The Daily Observer, SM Zilani shared his personal experiences of political persecution, stating, "I have never believed in vengeance, whether in my personal or political life. Over the past 17 years, I have faced relentless political retaliation. Hundreds of baseless cases were filed against me. I suffered repeated attacks, spent years in prison, and endured inhumane torture under the guise of remand."

He also highlighted his recent ordeal on September 13, 2024, when he was attacked on his way to pay respects at his late parents' graves in Tungipara. "Awami terrorists launched a brutal attack on my family and colleagues. One of my associates lost his life, and many, including my wife, son, and myself, were severely injured," he added.

Zilani appealed for justice, leaving the matter in the people's hands.

Zilani reiterated his commitment to the welfare of the people, saying, "As an active member of the BNP, I am working for the betterment of our community and the nation. I firmly believe that vengeance cannot bring peace or prosperity. I urge everyone to join me in fostering development and unity in the area. My doors are always open to address any social or political issues."

The leaflet distribution campaign saw the participation of notable leaders, including Kotalipara BNP president SM Mohiuddin, general secretary Abul Bashar Hawlader, organizational secretary VP Faiquzzaman Faik, and many others from the BNP and its affiliate organizations such as the Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal and Chhatra Dal.

Zilani concluded his statement by expressing his determination to continue serving the people: "I was with you in the past, I am with you now, and I will be with you in the future, InshaAllah."
