Pagla Mosque collects over Tk 8cr in donations

Fouzia Khan, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kishoreganj and President of the Pagla Mosque Management Committee, oversaw the counting process.

The funds were collected from 11 donation boxes which contained 29 sacks of cash, foreign currency and gold ornaments.

A team of approximately 400 volunteers, supervised by DC Fouzia Khan and Superintendent of Police Hasan Chowdhury, managed the meticulous task of counting the donations.

This generous contribution follows a similar event on August 17, when the mosque collected Tk 7 crore 22 lakh 13 thousand and 46, demonstrating the consistent support the mosque receives from its devotees.

DC Fouzia Khan noted that the funds collected are used for the upkeep of the mosque and for various charitable activities in the region. These include support for mosques, madrasas, orphanages, and numerous social welfare programs, reflecting the community-driven spirit behind the donations.

The Pagla Mosque, which holds a rich historical legacy, is believed to have been built more than 500 years ago during the reign of Dewan Jilkadar Khan, a devoted follower of the prominent zamindar Isa Khan. The mosques name, "Pagla," is derived from Jilkadar Khan's reputation for fervent devotion and his practice of praying by the riverside, which endeared him to the local community.
