Youth stabbed dead in N'ganj, two held

Police have detained two youths in connection with the murder of a youth in Narayanganj's Fatulla upazila in the early hours of Sunday.  

The victim, Sajib Dev Nath, 28,  a resident of Katchapatri Road area in Barishal Sadar upazila, was stabbed at around 12:30 AM on Saturday night in Pagla Talatala area of Fatulla. After the stabbing, the two assailants attempted to flee, but police quickly responded and apprehended them.  

The two arrested individuals are as Robi, 18, of Nayamaty Mandir area, and Sajjad, 18, from the nearby Pagla School area.  

According to witnesses, a local group of drug addicts gather in the area to consume drugs and when workers try to stop them, the addicts often assault them in groups. Consequently, no one dares to challenge the local drug users.  

They further reported that on Saturday night, Sajib, Robi and Sajjad got into an argument while smoking cannabis. During the altercation, Robi and Sajjad attacked Sajib with a knife used for cutting hemp, stabbing him in the stomach. When Sajib screamed, the nearby workers woke up and rushed to help but by then, the attackers fled to the riverbank and continued to fight. Subsequently, Sajib collapsed to the ground and Robi and Sajjad escaped the scene. 

The police were alerted and they quickly arrived at the location, chasing and arresting the duo.

Inspector (Investigation) Sukanto Dutta confirmed that the body of the victim was recovered from the banks of Buriganga River and sent to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. 

The two suspects involved in the murder were arrested immediately after the crime. Legal proceedings are underway, he added.
