Members of 25th Battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods worth approximately Tk 94 lakh at Bijoynagar upazila in Brahmanbaria district on Tuesday.
The operation took place early Tuesday morning in the upazila.
According to the BGB sources, being tipped-off, a patrol team from Brahmanbaria Transit Camp under BGB-25 conducted a special raid at Chandura Bypass area at around 4:30 AM. Upon sensing the presence of law enforcement, smugglers fled the scene, abandoning the smuggled goods.
The seized items include, 6,880 pieces of Indian eyewear, 137 pieces of sarees, 936 pieces cosmetic products, Kaberi mehendi 4,320 pieces, Indian mond cigarettes 9,600 pieces, and American cow chocolates 1,480 pieces.
The total estimated market value of the confiscated goods is Tk 9,480,000.
The smuggled items are being processed for handover to Akhaura Customs Office and officials stated that operations to curb smuggling activities will continue in the region.
