The body of a 75-year-old man was recovered from Shaildah Canal at Kotalipara upazila in Gopalganj district on Tuesday afternoon.
Satish Roy, a resident of Rai Para in ward No. 2 of Ramshil union, is survived by his wife, one son, and four daughters.
According to local sources, Satish Roy was returning home from Ramshil Bazaar on Monday night when he fell from his boat into the canal and drowned. Around 1 AM on Tuesday, local fishermen discovered his boat and later found his body floating in the water.
Upon receiving the information, Kotalipara Police Station officer-in-charge Md. Abul Kalam Azad visited the scene, recovered the body, and prepared an inquest report. Later, the body has been sent to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Regarding the recovery, Superintendent of Police in Gopalganj Md. Mizanur Rahman stated, "Preliminary findings suggest drowning as the cause of death. However, the exact cause—whether it was an accident or foul play—will be determined after the autopsy report. We will proceed with legal actions based on the findings of the report."
