Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan has criticized the lack of action in exploring new gas sources in the past 15 and a half years, noting that Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (Bapex) was kept largely idle during this period.

The adviser made these remarks while addressing journalists after a visit to Ghorashal Palash Urea Fertilizer Factory in Narsingdi on Saturday.

Adilur linked the ongoing gas crisis to the shortage of fertilizer in the country, asserting that resolving the gas supply issues would also address the fertilizer shortage. He mentioned ongoing efforts to extract gas from the Bhola region as a potential solution to mitigate the crisis.

Acknowledging the broader challenges in meeting fertilizer demands, Adilur also emphasized the need to address corruption, which he stated has been a persistent issue for over a decade. He highlighted that combating corruption is part of the government's ongoing initiatives.

Among others, Industries Secretary Zakia Sultana, Narsingdi Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rashed Hossain Chowdhury, and Superintendent of Police Md Abdul Hannan were present during the visit.
