Police recovered the hanging body of a teenager girl from her parental house at Enayetpur upazila in Bagerhat district on Sunday.
The body of deceased was identified as Sorna Akter, 15, daughter of Hemayet Sheikh from Bisharighata village under Morelganj upazila.
According to her relatives, the body of Sorna was discovered hanging in an empty room adjacent to Hemayet Sheikh's house at around 2 AM on Saturday night.
Sorna's stepmother, Rashida Begum, claimed she died by suicide. However, Sorna's biological mother, Dalia Begum, alleged that the circumstances surrounding her daughter's death were suspicious.
On Sunday morning, police retrieved the body and sent it to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
Morelganj Police Station officer-in-charge Md. Rakibul Islam, said, "The body has been recovered and an investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of death. The autopsy report will provide clarity on the matter."
